2008 Ford Crown Victoria Fuel Injector Parts Q&A

  • Q: What safety precautions should be taken when servicing the fuel injector and fuel rail on 2008 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: To maintain safety while working on fuel components avoid any exposure to smoking or open flames because flammable mixtures are present. All fuel tubes or components need to be disconnected only after releasing fuel system pressure because the system operates at high pressure even when the engine turns off. Start the procedure by depowering the fire suppression system and place the vehicle on a hoist in neutral gear. To start disconnect the battery ground cable together with the fuel tube spring lock coupling from the fuel rail. Separate the throttle body (TB) while also disconnecting the EGR system module tube from the other hoses which run from the TB spacer including the brake booster vacuum hose and the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve hose and PCV tube and intake manifold vacuum hose. The crash bracket wire harness retainer can be detached if used followed by removal of the two bolts for the crash bracket after torquing them to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) for reinstallation. The technician must start by taking off the wire harness retainer from the left front fuel rail stud bolt while disconnecting all eight fuel injector electrical connectors and removing the ground connector from the right rear fuel rail stud bolt. Follow these steps to disconnect the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor vacuum hose as well as its electrical connector along with the EGR system module vacuum and electrical connectors. Disassemble the two intake manifold shield bolts and the shield system before reassembly by securing them at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). To continue remove the four fuel rail stud bolts and install them to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) torque before pulling out the fuel rail with attached fuel injectors. New fuel-resistant O-ring seals should be used because replacing existing seals with old ones can cause leaks. The procedure includes rebuilding the fire suppression system and conducting an engine oil lubrication of fuel injector O-ring residuals before performing reverse installation steps.
