2008 Ford E-150 Oil Cooler Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the oil cooler on 2008 Ford E-150?
A: The first step to service the oil cooler requires a vehicle in NEUTRAL position which must also sit on a hoist. First drain all fluid from both the oil engine and the engine cooling system. You must cut the coolant hoses from the oil cooler before removing the oil filter which goes into disposal. Detect all metal as well as aluminum foreign materials in the oil cooler so you can address mechanical issues before repairing the engine. Operator should dispose of the worn-out oil cooler included. A new oil cooler should be positioned onto the oil filter adapter so its tab fits into the oil cooler notch before installing the threaded insert with 58 Nm (43 lb-ft) torque. Follow this sequence to install the new oil filter which must be tightened to 16 Nm (12 lb-ft) after which the two coolant hoses should be connected to the oil cooler. Secure the oil drain plug by tightening it to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). The installation process ends with adding clean engine oil then performing the engine cooling system fill-up and bleed procedures.
