2009 Ford E-150 Oil Cooler Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the oil cooler on 2009 Ford E-150?
A: Service of the oil cooler begins with placing the vehicle in NEUTRAL gear then hoisting it to an elevated position. Beginning the process requires draining both coolant system fluid and engine oil followed by removing the hoses from the oil cooler. The engine oil filter must be extracted and discarded from the system. Engine damage is likely when foreign metal or aluminium materials are detected within the oil cooler so discard it along with the threaded insert. First position a new oil cooler by placing it on the oil filter adapter so its tab enters the notch while installing the threaded insert which needs to be torqued to 58 Nm (43 lb-ft). First install your fresh oil filter components by applying torque to 16 Nm (142 lb-in). Also attach the two coolant hoses to the oil cooler unit. Secure the new oil drain plug by turning it to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). The engine must be filled with new engine oil followed by the completion of engine cooling system bleeding.
