2008 Ford E-250 Power Steering Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Power Steering Reservoir on 2008 Ford E-250?
A: Processing the power steering reservoir requires placement of vehicles on a hoist while keeping the transmission in the NEUTRAL gear. A suitable suction system should be used to draw out the power steering fluid from the reservoir. A power steering reservoir must be lifted from its bracket when working on 4.6L, 5.4L or 6.8L engines. The reservoir bracket securing bolts should first be removed from a 6.0L engine system followed by re-tightening them to 14 Nm (10 lb-ft) at reinstallation time. Two bolts that fasten the reservoir bracket to the radiator support need removal but install them with 9 Nm (80 lb-inch) torque. The position of the power steering reservoir requires removal of three bolts to separate the bracket from the reservoir. After detaching these bolts you must tighten each bolt to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft) during the reinstallation process. Flattening the clamps enables users to disconnect the power steering cooler-to-reservoir return hose and power steering pump supply hose. Unscrew the power steering reservoir before reinstalling it following the removal steps while filling the power steering system after completion.
