2008 Ford Expedition Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the battery cables on 2008 Ford Expedition?
A: The first step for battery cable servicing requires that vehicles be placed in neutral and mounted on a hoist. Begin by disconnecting the battery then take out the nut which positions the battery ground cable terminal away from the starter before finally tightening it to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) when reinstalling. When installing the connector remove the nut that will position the starter solenoid positive cable terminal aside then tighten it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). To place the starter solenoid wire terminal to the side remove the nut then tighten it to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). The two battery cable harness brackets should be unbolted by removing their nuts where they connect to A/C compressor mounting bolts before finally securing them to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) when reassembly takes place. Following bolt removal from the battery ground cable-to-frame terminal you should place it aside for installation where torque should reach 20 Nm (15 lb-ft). Position both the generator harness terminal and the central junction box (CJB) cable terminal aside while torquing them to 6 Nm (53 lb-in). Follow this sequence to detach the battery ground cable from its terminal on the cowl panel and continue by tightening it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) while reinstalling. The service starts by disconnecting the battery cable harness in-line electrical connector while releasing the harness locator to remove the entire battery cable harness. The completion of the service requires performing the opposite steps from removal.
