2008 Ford Explorer Starter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the starter motor on 2008 Ford Explorer?
A: Begin starter motor servicing and repairs when the vehicle remains in neutral position on top of a hoist. Frequent the battery ground cable before proceeding to disconnect it for electric safety purposes. First remove the starter motor solenoid terminal cover before taking out the B terminal nut to disconnect its cable while torquing it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) upon installation. Begin by taking off the S terminal nut from the cable then disconnecting it so you apply torque of 6 Nm (53 lb-in) when installing it. Following this step the ground cable securing nut must be removed before the cable is placed aside. The bolt and stud bolt together with the starter motor must be taken apart for installation by following the torque specifications of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). People should follow the opposite installation procedure to remove the hardware and should begin tightening the upper bolt earlier during reinstallation than the lower fastener.
