The procedure starts with removing 12 differential housing cover bolts while discarding the axle housing lubricant. Before reinstallation check that both axle and differential housing cover mating surfaces have no remaining oil residue because contamination will occur. Install the differential housing cover within a 15-minute period after applying a new continuous strip of silicone sealant unless replacing the sealant. The 12 differential housing cover bolts require torque tightening to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft). Tractor-Lok axle maintenance requires the addition of 118 milliliters offraction modifier which should precede new lubricant insertion. Follow this procedure to add specified axle lubricant and secure the fill plug at 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). First remove the fill plug and empty the axle of lubricant before adding fluid that will reach a level underneath the fill hole opening. Reinstall the fill plug afterwards.
