2008 Ford Focus Power Steering Hose Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Power Steering Hose on 2008 Ford Focus?
A: The battery removal along with the battery tray must start the process of servicing power steering line maintenance. Disconnect the pressure line from its position between the pressure and return line retainer. The automatic transmission requires professionals to disconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor electrical connector near the transmission point while moving it away from the pressure line path. The service starts with removing the lower radiator air deflector and power steering pump pulley and power steering pressure (PSP) sensor electrical connector. Secure the PSP sensor onto the pressure line by tightening it to 20 Nm at installation. The technician should disconnect the power steering pump pressure line fitting and tighten this component to 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.) when reinstalling. The A/C compressor line bracket must be separated from the A/C compressor stud before detaching the wiring harness retainer and removing the pressure line-to-A/C compressor stud nut which requires 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.) torque when reinstalling the assembly. The next step requires you to loosen the A/C line bracket screw before moving the A/C line and pressure line brackets away from the A/C compressor stud. To replace the pressure line bracket, first detach the oil pressure sending unit wiring harness retainer from the pressure line bracket-to-starter stud, then remove the nut from the pressure line bracket-to-starter stud before setting the pressure line bracket aside at 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.). First disconnect the pressure line from the steering gear by removing the bolt securing the steering line to steering gear retainer along with the removal of the pressure line from its retainer before reuniting the pressure line to the steering gear. During reinstallation tidy the clamp plate and torque the bolt to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). The three pressure and return line retainers need to have the pressure line removed from their retainers. Automatic transmission vehicles require the selector lever cable to disconnect by pinch-clamping the retainer clips then extracting the cable from the cable bracket before pulling the cable end toward the shift shaft lever to remove it from the shaft. Set cable and retainer off to the side from the pressure line. When replacing the pressure line it should be directed properly before you complete filling your power steering system.
