2008 Ford Ranger Timing Cover Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the timing cover on 2008 Ford Ranger?
A: You should drain engine coolant before starting the servicing process of the timing cover. The repair process starts by removing the accessory drive belt next to the fan and shroud assembly removal. Proceed by removing the bolts for the coolant pump pulley and detach the wiring harness bracket by unbolting the nut. Rotate the A/C hose and bracket assembly to the side when you remove the nut before extracting the stud bolts that fix the A/C compressor mounting bracket. The accessory drive belt tensioner and bolt should come off followed by a safe placement of the power steering bracket and compressor when all bolts are removed. Loosen up the heater hose and lower radiator hose assembly at the outlet of the coolant pump and lower intake manifold. First disconnect the electrical connector of the CKP sensor then remove its two bolts before proceeding to remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor and the oil pan and the crankshaft front seal. Through bolt and stud bolt removal you can separate the engine front cover in combination with coolant pump as one piece and get rid of the front cover gasket. Installation begins with removing contaminants from every sealing surface before setting the new front cover gasket for mounting the engine front cover. The installation should start by attaching bolts with pipe sealant that contains PTFE then tighten them to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Attach the CKP sensor followed by fastening the two bolts to a torque specification of 10 Nm (89 lb-inch) then restore connection of the CKP sensor electrical connector. After installing the oil pan and crankshaft front seal you should proceed to connect the lower radiator hose assembly at the coolant pump outlet and lower intake manifold and heater hose at the coolant pump. Put the A/C compressor together with the power steering bracket into position before torquing its bolts to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft). Position the A/C compressor and power steering bracket while tightening the stud bolts to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft). Next, install the accessory drive belt tensioner along with its bolt and tighten both components to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft). The A/C hose needs proper placement before installing its nut with a torque value of 11 Nm (8 lb-ft). Then position the wiring harness bracket for installation using a nut tightened to 10 Nm (89 lb-inch). As a final step install the coolant pump pulley bolts but tighten them to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) before reinstalling the fan and shroud assembly and accessory drive belt along with performing cooling system filling and bleeding procedures.
