- Q: How to service the rear seat backrest seat cover on 2008 Ford Taurus?A: The service procedure for the Taurus and Sable rear seat backrest cover starts with removing the rear seat cushion and then removing the 60 percent rear seat backrest. Users of the Taurus and Sable must first detach the head restraint assembly by pressing its adjust button followed by unscrewing the bracket outboard cover and its attached armrest. When reinstalling this bolt between the armrest and bracket tighten it to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). Press the pin located on the inboard armrest side to detach it from the backrest while folding upwards the armrest pocket on the trim cover before setting it to the side. After that, remove pin-type retainers while detaching the J-clip at the backrest trim cover base along with the hook-and-loop strips located at the back. Exercise safe hand movements while separating the seat backrest trim cover from the hook-and-loop strip to protect the seat backrest foam. Begin by releasing the hook-and-loop strips after which you should invert the trim cover followed by removing the three rows of hog rings before pulling the latch release strap through. You should start by raising the backrest foam pad and pinching together the head restraint guide then removing its two guides before proceeding to remove the backrest trim cover. After reversing the removal process you can reinstall the trim.
