2008 Ford Taurus X Alternator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the alternator on 2008 Ford Taurus X?
A: Start the alternator servicing process by unwiring the battery. The first step involves removing the generator B+ nut and terminal but proceed with tightening this component to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) when reinstalling it. The generator electrical connector should be disconnected while placing the engine wiring harness to the side. The upper radiator hose should be set aside while removing its cradle. The wire harness across the top of the radiator requires separation from its five pin-type retainers before placement to the side. Use a tool to move the accessory drive belt tensioner in order to shift the belt out of instalment path. The upper generator stud requires removal along with its nut but both components get torqued at 8 Nm (71 lb-in) when reinstalling. The technician should install the generator bolt loosely at first before tightening it to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) when reinstalling it. To complete the process replace the generator in the opposite order of removal.
