- Q: How to service and repair the right-hand (RH) exhaust manifold on 2008 Ford Taurus X?A: First remove both the RH catalytic converter then disconnect the RH heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector for right-hand (RH) exhaust manifold servicing and repair. The six nuts holding the RH exhaust manifold should be removed before discarding both the nuts along with the gasket. The cleaning process of RH exhaust manifold follows inspection before discarding six RH exhaust manifold studs. The sealing surfaces require cleaning with a plastic scraper because metal scrapers and wire brushes produce scars and grooves which cause leakage so refer to product instructions for metal surface prep treatment. The installation procedure requires six new RH exhaust manifold studs which need to be fastened to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque. A second tightness adjustment of exhaust manifold nuts according to specification remains necessary to avoid exhaust leaks. Install the RH exhaust manifold using new gasket materials followed by securing it with six new nuts which must be tightened to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) in two installation steps. Reconnect the RH HO2S electrical connector before installing the right-hand catalytic converter in place.
