- Q: How to service the lower intake manifold on 2008 Ford Taurus X?A: The service procedure for the lower intake manifold requires draining the cooling system and removing the fuel rail first. You must remove three bolts which secure the thermostat housing to the lower intake manifold followed by removing all ten bolts that attach the lower intake manifold to its place. You must dispose of both intake manifold and thermostat housing gaskets before proceeding to clean all sealing surfaces. The eight new gaskets must be installed for positioning the manifold before securing it with the ten bolts which need a torque of 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Use new gaskets to bolt the three components of thermostat housing-to-lower intake manifold while tightening them to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). To finish the procedure install the fuel rail and perform cooling system fill-up and bleeding operations.
