2008 Lincoln Mark LT Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Steering Shaft on 2008 Lincoln Mark LT?
A: Perform steering column shaft maintenance by allocating time to repair jobs starting with placing the vehicle into NEUTRAL position with the help of a hoist. The failure to maintain the steering column stationary during its detached state from the Clock Spring can result in its damage so the Clock Spring might need removal and straightening adjustment. The starting point begins with positioning the steering wheel right and switching off the ignition while removing the key from the ignition. The upper steering column shaft should be separated from the lower column shaft by unbolting their connection point while tightening it to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) for future reinstallation. You should take out the two dash seal bolts while also removing the dash seal but return each to a torque of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) after reinstalling. Remove the bolt joining the upper steering column shaft to the steering column while applying a torque of 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) when reinstalling it before continuing with the upper steering column shaft removal. After disconnecting the lower steering column shaft from the steering gear with its bolt you must tighten both to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) before you remove the lower column shaft. Finish the process by using the opposite sequence of removal steps needed for installation.
