2008 Mercury Grand Marquis Coolant Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the coolant reservoir on 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis?
A: The repair process for coolant reservoirs requires first waiting for engine cool-down because the cooling system retains high pressure that forces out both steam and hot liquid which presents risks for serious injuries to the technician. The first step is to reduce the cooling system pressure through a counterclockwise turn of one half turn on the pressure relief cap before removing it. The hose clamp pliers should be used to clamp the degas bottle supply hose while suctioning the coolant from the degas bottle with a suitable suction device. Proceed with disconnection of the degas bottle supply hose and the overflow hose after removing the bolt which secures the bottle. A proper reinstallation process requires degas bottle tightening to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) along with a replacement of constant tension clamps with new worm-style clamps. Add a mixture of recommended coolant to the degas bottle until reaching the proper fill mark.
