Coolant Reservoir of Mercury Grand Marquis is a component of the engine cooling system which serves the purpose of containing coolant that would otherwise spill on the ground and to remove all the air which tends to get into the system. There are two main types of Coolant Reservoirs used in Grand Marquis vehicles: The two types of tanks that are mostly preferred in industries are the overflow tank systems and expansion tank systems. In the overflow system, coolant moves from the radiator to the recovery tank when pressure is more than the cap's rating, On the other hand, the expansion tank is a part of the pressurized cooling system and used to allow changes in coolant volume. Daily, weekly, monthly, and bi-monthly checks should be done these will help in identifying any signs of crack, leakage or even degradation of the Coolant Reservoir.

Mercury Grand Marquis Coolant Reservoir Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the coolant reservoir on Mercury Grand Marquis?
    A:
The repair process for coolant reservoirs requires first waiting for engine cool-down because the cooling system retains high pressure that forces out both steam and hot liquid which presents risks for serious injuries to the technician. The first step is to reduce the cooling system pressure through a counterclockwise turn of one half turn on the pressure relief cap before removing it. The hose clamp pliers should be used to clamp the degas bottle supply hose while suctioning the coolant from the degas bottle with a suitable suction device. Proceed with disconnection of the degas bottle supply hose and the overflow hose after removing the bolt which secures the bottle. A proper reinstallation process requires degas bottle tightening to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) along with a replacement of constant tension clamps with new worm-style clamps. Add a mixture of recommended coolant to the degas bottle until reaching the proper fill mark.
