2008 Mercury Grand Marquis Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the steering knuckle on 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis?
A: You must deactivate the fire suppression system before service and repair of the steering knuckle because it protects you from dangerous injuries. The first step is to remove the wheel with its attached tire then proceed to take out the brake disc. After you pull back the rubber splash shield you can disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector. Apply the holding tool to the stud and uninstall its outer tie rod nut before disconnecting the outer tie rod from the wheel knuckle. Reinstall this nut by torqueing it to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft). The procedure continues with essential stabilizer bar link upper nut removal before replacing it with a new one that requires a torque of 63 Nm (46 lb-ft). The maintenance technician should use the holding feature to eliminate the stabilizer link nut and stabilizer bar link before discarding both items while tightening the new nut to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) during assembly. The installation process requires detachments of the wheel speed sensor wiring harness retainer from the steering knuckle and removal and disposal of the upper ball joint nut followed by proper tightening of the new nut up to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) before reinstallation. The process should be repeated on the lower ball joint nut before extracting the wheel knuckle by discarding the nut then tightening the new one to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft). Tear out the four bolts from the wheel bearing and wheel hub when needed then follow up with torque of 120 Nm (89 lb-ft) when installing new bolts. Reinstall the components through the reversed removal steps ensuring to check and align the front end when necessary. The repowering of fire suppression systems requires following safety warnings alongside all procedures to avoid severe personal injury.
