2008 Mercury Mountaineer Fuel Level Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How Can You Safely Service and Repair a Fuel Level Sensor on 2008 Mercury Mountaineer?
A: Service and repair of the fuel level sensor requires you to remove the fuel pump first. Start by unscrewing the fuel level sensor cover followed by the removal of its screw. Notate where the fuel level sensor wire will be routed because it will be needed during the installation stage. Next, remove the covering heat shrink tube from the connector of the fuel level sensor wire and detach the connection wire. Take note of the fuel level sensor ground wire route before unscrewing its connection to detach the wire from the sensor. Position the fuel level sensor ground wire alongside the fuel pump body with the fuel level sensor wire neatly passing through the fuel pump center point before they should sit behind the metal sending unit plate. Secure the fuel level sensor onto the fuel pump then apply screw pressure to fix it followed by connecting the ground wire. The wire harness should have the heat shrink tube placed on it before connecting the fuel level sensor wire electrical connector. A heat gun should be used to shrink the heat shrink tube without exposing fan-cooled fuel residue to open flames. After that, attach the fuel level sensor cover by tightening its screw before you put back the fuel pump.
