- Q: How to Deactivate the Air Bag System on 2009 Ford Crown Victoria?A: A vehicle owner must first turn off all accessories then turn off the ignition to disable Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Start by removing the CJB cover to access the RCM fuse 22 (10A). Observe the air bag warning indicator for at least thirty seconds when the car is powered on while checking that it continuously glows when the correct fuse is successfully extracted. Before proceeding with any work you should turn the key off then disconnect the ground cable from the battery which requires you to let the back up supply drain for at least one minute. An Allen wrench with 4 mm (0.15 in) diameter should be marked at two points: 35 mm (1.37 in) from its end and 45 mm (1.77 in) further down. Insert the tool through the upper access hole of the steering wheel rear cover until it reaches an obstacle and ensure the 45 mm marker rests near the cover. If necessary, reposition the tool. The tool should be forward-pushed once it reaches its correct position to release the locking pin that separates the driver air bag module from the steering wheel spring clip. Apply the same procedure to remove the lower access hole spring clip while keeping the tool's marker at 35 mm. Remove the driver air bag module by first unclipping both spring clips from its sides followed by disconnecting its electrical connectors. Next disconnect all electrical connectors that control the rear window defrost switch as well as the Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) indicator from the RH instrument panel trim panel. Uninstall the passenger air bag module after disconnecting its bolts and electrical connectors while paying attention to protect the module from any harm. Position the passenger air bag module's jumper harness and return it into the instrument panel area while fastening it with bolts. Install the RH panel trim of the instrument panel before fastening the glove compartment isolator. Connect the driver air bag module properly by aligning electrical connectors before putting it inside the steering wheel. You should reconnect the battery ground cable along with installing an RCM fuse 22 (10A) before checking the SRS functionality through the air bag warning indicator after enabling the ignition.
