2009 Ford Crown Victoria Crankshaft Position Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Service the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2009 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: A safe method to service the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor begins with disabling the fire suppression system due to serious injury risks. Place the vehicle in neutral position for hoisting on a stand. When rotating the tensioner you should remove the drive belt that is hiding the A/C compressor pulley. The A/C compressor field coil receives connector removal at the same time as the CKP sensor electrical connector. Detach the two wiring harness clips by removing the nut and tighten them to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) when reassembling. Users should not separate the A/C compressor stud bolts yet they need to loosen these bolts by just one inch to let the compressor move down before re-tightening them to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) during reinstallation. The CKP sensor requires a bolt removal and installation will require torque at 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Repower the vehicle with its fire suppression system after finishing installation while strictly following safety warnings which protect against severe personal injury.
