2009 Ford E-150 A/C Accumulator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the A/C Accumulator for 4.6L, 5.4L, and 6.8L Engines on 2009 Ford E-150?
A: Start suction accumulator service for 4.6L, 5.4L and 6.8L engines by recovering the refrigerant before you detach the battery and battery tray while loosening and retightening battery tray bolts to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft) tension. The washer reservoir filler tube may be set aside after removing its two securing bolts. The evaporator outlet fitting requires wrenches on each side to avoid twisting before you discard the O-ring seal while tightening the fitting to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). The process for vehicle suction accumulator outlet fitting requires removal of the nut before discarding the O-ring seal and gasket seal and subsequent installation torque to 15 Nm (133 lb-in). When working on vehicles equipped with auxiliary A/C it is necessary to remove the suction accumulator outlet spring lock coupling while discarding all O-ring seals. Disconnect the A/C cycling switch electrical connector followed by removal of two suction accumulator bolts while tightening the bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb-in) during reinstallation. Installation of the suction accumulator requires following the removal steps in reverse order alongside new gasket and O-ring parts while applying correct PAG oil to the refrigerant system followed by evacuation then leak detection and finally refrigerant charging. You need to replace the suction accumulator with a new one only when you detect physical contamination from broken A/C compressors or see damages including leaks or moisture contamination that happens following complete refrigerant loss. Wait until the precise moment before line fitting attachment to remove shipping caps from the suction accumulator desiccant along with a necessary prevention of air contact during this period.
