2009 Ford E-150 Crankshaft Position Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2009 Ford E-150?
A: The Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor service begins by choosing NEUTRAL gear position then placing the vehicle on a hoist. The rotational clockwise motion of the accessory drive belt tensioner will free the A/C compressor pulley from the belt so it can be removed with the splash shield. Begin by disconnecting the electrical connector of the CKP sensor and place the wiring harness safely to the side before removing the bracket connector. The A/C compressor electrical connection should be unplugged although the needed removal of A/C compressor bolts is not required because it can be detached by loosening the bolts enough to let the compressor move 25.4 mm (1 in) below for access to the CKP sensor. Uninstall the CKP sensor bolt and sensor from their position while checking the O-ring for damage then replace if necessary. New O-ring seals require application of clean engine oil for lubrication before installation while they should be tightened to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). The reinstallation of CKP sensor follows the reverse order of removal steps and requires A/C compressor bolt torque to be set at 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Lastly you should execute the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure with a scan tool by following the display screen guidance.
