• Q: How to service the Tail Pipe and Muffler assembly on 2009 Ford E-150?

  A: Start the muffler and tailpipe assembly servicing process by hoisting the vehicle into NEUTRAL position then supporting it with the stand while performing the work. All hanger isolators need to be released and the Torca® clamp should be loosened before reinstallation. Tighten it to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) after assembly. Unfit vehicles with extensions require separation of the extension using a Torca® clamp then proper tightening of the clamp to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). Begin by taking off the RH rear upper shock absorber nut and tighten it to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) before moving on to remove the RH rear lower shock absorber nut and shock absorber that need to be tightened to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft) upon reinstallation. The exhaust Y-pipe must have its muffler and tailpipe assembly detached by van and wagon owners but stripped chassis owners need to remove it from the catalytic converter or extension pipe. Follow all clearance checks by eliminating the muffler and tailpipe assembly from the vehicle and implementing the reverse removal steps for proper installation.
