2009 Ford E-250 Air Bag Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Safely Repower an Air Bag System on 2009 Ford E-250?
A: Starting the ignition process by shifting from OFF to ON position is necessary before repowering the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Attaching RCM fuse 32 (10A) to the Smart Junction Box (SJB) should be followed by cover installation. When connecting the battery ground cable check that all occupants left the vehicle and remove any objects blocking air bag modules since these safety measures result in potential injuries from air bag spontaneous deployment. The verification of SRS function requires the system to be turned to ON and then OFF before returning to ON with continuous monitoring of the air bag warning indicator through all installed SRS components. The warning indicator should activate non-stop for 6 seconds then turn itself off. When an SRS fault occurs the air bag warning indicator might either fail to illuminate or stay permanently lit or flash this flash may begin anytime from 30 seconds after vehicle ignition to turning ON. When a fault exists along with the inoperative air bag warning indicator the system produces five series of five beeps that indicate immediate repair is needed for the indicator and any other SRS faults. The RCM requires a tool to eliminate all available Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from its system.
