2009 Ford Edge Vapor Canister Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Vapor Canister on 2009 Ford Edge?
A: A primary safety step before servicing or repairing the evaporative emission control canister is to keep fuel-related areas free of smoking materials and open flames and personal electronic devices due to the dangerous flammability of the mixtures. All EVAP system work requires disconnecting the grounding battery cable. Connect the vehicle to a hoist on neutral with proper mounting of the hoist arm at the frame lifting point. The procedure requires removing three bolts together with a pin-type retainer and EVAP shield before reinstallation where each component needs to be tightened to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). Proceed by disconnecting the EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical connector and following with the fuel vapor tube-to-EVAP canister quick connect coupling and the fuel vapor tube assembly-to-EVAP canister quick connect coupling and then removed the fuel vapor tube connection to the dust separator. The installation process requires tightening of the three EVAP canister bolts to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) after reinstallation. The EVAP canister becomes free after removal of its pin-type retainer. Start by putting the alignment tab in the body of the new canister before using the pin-type retainer and three bolts for installation. The evaporative emission system leak test must be performed to verify system performance.
