2008 Ford Edge Vapor Canister Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Vapor Canister on 2008 Ford Edge?
A: The procedure for servicing and repairing the evaporative emission control canister starts by placing the vehicle in the neutral gear on a hoist where the hoist arm supports the frame lifting point. To start servicing the evaporative emission control canister disconnect the battery ground cable then remove the three bolts, pin-type retainer and the evap shield before reinstallation tighten the bolts to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). The service begins with disconnecting the evap canister vent solenoid electrical connector and performing quick disconnect operations for the fuel vapor tube-to-evap canister assembly and the fuel vapor tube assembly-to-evap canister assembly before disconnecting the fuel vapor tube from the dust separator. Replace the three bolts of the evap canister but maintain a torque of 9 Nm (80 lb-in) during the installation process. The pin-type retainer should be released after disconnecting the evap canister. Before securing the new canister with bolts and pin-type retainer begin by inserting the alignment tab into the body of the component. Perform a evaporative emission system leak test after the installation while doing the evap repair verification drive cycle.
