Service and repair of the selector lever mechanism requires initial removal of the instrument panel lower finish panel as well as the steering column lower shroud through unscrewing their necessary screws. The IC shroud trim must be removed first followed by removing the steering column upper shroud. Then proceed to take out the right-hand (RH) and left-hand (LH) IC trim screws until the IC trim separates from the instrument panel. The procedure requires disconnecting the in-vehicle temperature sensor and the dimmer switch electrical connector before removing all upper IC screws and lower IC screws on both RH and LH sides. Place the IC somewhere safe. Tearing the selector lever cable assembly can be avoided when disconnecting the selector lever cable by not placing force on the cable segment running between the steering column selector lever arm and steering column bracket. First disconnect the locking pin before you detach the park lock cable and then remove the electrical connector and harness from their retaining clips on the Tow/Haul switch. First remove the selector lever bolt then remove the selector lever while proceeding to detach the selector lever mechanism lower bolt. The installer should start by disconnecting the Brake Shift Interlock Actuator (BSIA) electrical connector and afterward uninstall the upper bolts of the selector lever mechanism from the vehicle. To separate the BSIA clipping mechanism start by pulling the override button then unscrew it before you can gently open the clip. To install the BSIA you must first attach it to the selector lever mechanism while you pull the override button and position the selector lever tab into the BSIA followed by securing it with the clip and screw installation. The selection mechanism should be reinstalled in the vehicle using upper bolts while hooking up the BSIA electrical connector before tightening it to 6 Nm (53 lb-in). You should fasten the selector lever mechanism lower bolt initially to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) then continue with the selector lever which requires 18 Nm (159 lb-in) torque. Connect the Tow/Haul switch electrical connector into retaining clips then install the locking pin and park lock cable ensuring connection of new park lock cable. When connecting the selector lever cable it should be handled without force being applied to the selector lever cable assembly. Place the IC in its new position and secure the lower screws at the LH and RH side after installing upper IC screws. Follow the reinstallation process of the IC trim then establish connections with the dimmer switch electrical connector and the in-vehicle temperature sensor connector in case it is present. The installation sequence concludes by placing the LH and RH IC trim screws while fitting the IC shroud trim similarly to the upper and lower steering column shrouds through their screws. Finally attach the instrument panel lower finish panel.
