2009 Ford F-150 Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Column Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2009 Ford F-150?
A: The first step to service or repair the Brake Shift Interlock Actuator in a column shift is to trigger the park brake while stepping the ignition switch to OFF. The edges of the selector lever boot need compacting to move it up the knob. To access the slots on each side of the steering column shroud use a one-half turn to the steering wheel before you can position the suitable tool into the slots for unsnapping the upper shroud while rotating it on its hinges and pulling it toward the rear. To start the sequence, keep the ignition in ON mode then hit the brake shift interlock plunger and apply the brake and move the transmission to NEUTRAL position. Following these steps allows you to separate the Brake Shift Interlock Actuator (BSIA) connector while releasing the BSIA cable lock and moving the brake shift interlock upward to detach it. Implement the BSIA by activating the BSIA override mechanism and ensuring the slider exists its full range toward the rear. The transmission selector lever should be pointed at the BSIA before you continue to change its position from NEUTRAL to PARK. Install the BSIA cable only when the ignition switch shows an OFF position. The installation requires following the opposite order of steps used for removal.
