  A: The first step to service or repair the Brake Shift Interlock Actuator in a column shift is to trigger the park brake while stepping the ignition switch to OFF. To access the slots on each side of the steering column shroud use a one-half turn to the steering wheel before you can position the suitable tool into the slots for unsnapping the upper shroud while rotating it on its hinges and pulling it toward the rear. To start the sequence, keep the ignition in ON mode then hit the brake shift interlock plunger and apply the brake and move the transmission to NEUTRAL position.
