Handling live air bag modules requires eye protection and placing the deployment door/trim cover/tear seam in a direction away from your body to protect against potentially serious injuries when deactivating the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Every vehicle accessory needs to be switched off before the ignition shut-off begins. First disconnect RCM fuse 32 (10A) at Smart Junction Box (SJB) found in the RH lower kick panel before removing its cover. Check the air bag warning indicator that continues its illumination for at least thirty seconds after turning on the ignition. In case the indicator fails to illuminate properly remove the designated RCM fuse. Install and tighten the manual tilt lever when present to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) torque. The procedure requires turning the ignition from off to on after reinstallation of RCM fuse 32 (10A) and grounding the vehicle battery while ensuring the area remains empty before finalizing the operation. During SRS proofing turn off the ignition wait for 10 seconds then restart ignition to verify the air bag warning indicator lighting for 6 seconds before its shutdown. The system requires additional assessment when the indicator fails to appear or stays illuminated or flashes continuously or produces 5 sets of 5 individual beeps and a scan tool must be used to clear all continuous memory DTCs from the RCM.
