2009 Ford Flex Vapor Canister Parts Q&A

  • Q: How Should One Safely Service the Vapor Canister on 2009 Ford Flex?
A: Before working on the evaporative emission control canister maintain safety by keeping all fuel-related components free from lighted tobacco or open flames because the mixture could ignite and produce serious injuries. The work area demands strict prohibition of personal electronic devices including cell phones and audio equipment. The work on the EVAP system and fuel-related components requires battery ground cable disconnection prior to starting. The first step requires hoisting the vehicle with neutral gear selection. Eliminate foreign material as well as dirt from the EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical connector and its vicinity. After clearing the area you can disconnect the connector. The technician must first disconnect the fasteners between the fuel vapor tube-to-EVAP canister along with the fuel vapor tube assembly and the fresh air hose-to-dust separator. The five EVAP canister nuts require removal with proper torque setting of 9 Nm (80 lb-in) for reinstallation. Instrumentation functions will begin when the installer reverses the removal sequence to reinstall the canister before performing the evaporative emission system leak test.
