2009 Ford Focus Canister Purge Valve Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Valve on 2009 Ford Focus?
A: Start the service and repair process of the Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Valve by first ensuring safety by staying away from smoking or having open flames or lighted tobacco around fuel components since volatile mixtures are present. All personnel must refrain from entering the work area with their personal electronic devices, including cell phones and audio equipment. The service technician must always disconnect the battery ground cable before servicing either the EVAP system or any fuel-related components. The installation begins with unfastening the battery ground cable before taking off both retainers and the heat shield. The removal process requires disconnecting the electrical connector from the EVAP canister purge valve and the two connecting couplings which join the vapor jump tubes to the canister purge valve. If the SAN lifetime span has not expired yet, then use the locking tab to free the EVAP canister purge valve from its bracket. Finish the installation process by executing the opposite sequence of the removal process. An Evaporative Emission System Leak Test should be performed on the installed system to verify proper functioning.
