2009 Ford Mustang Drive Shaft Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace the Drive Shaft on a 4.0L on 2009 Ford Mustang?
A: Your first step to replace or remove the driveshaft of a 4.0L vehicle involves placing it in neutral position on a hoist. You should make index marks on the driveshaft to maintain correct position but you should remove and discard the eight driveshaft flange bolts. New bolts must be used for installation where you should follow a cross pattern prior to tightening them to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft). The driveshaft and its components must not receive hammer impacts during disconnection of flanges from pilots because a proper tool should be used only in the marked application space to release the flanges. The removal operation begins when you disconnect the driveshaft flanges after which you take out the driveshaft. To reinstall properly position the driveshaft flanges directly onto the pinion flange pilots before evenly tightening their bolts through a cross pattern system.
