2009 Lincoln MKS Alternator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the alternator on 2009 Lincoln MKS?
A: Service and repair procedures of the alternator require initial steps which include disconnecting the battery followed by engine cover removal. Position the upper radiator hose to the side then disconnect the radiator hose support cradle. Begin by moving the generator protective cover away from the equipment and then take out the B+ nut before setting the terminal aside. The generator electrical connector needs to be detached then the harness should be set in an accessible spot. Through accessory drive belt tensioner rotation you can remove the generator belt from its position. Start by detaching the upper generator nut and stud before loosening the lower generator bolt in order to remove the generator. To install the generator position it first then hand-tighten the lower bolt before attaching the upper stud and nut while tightening the stud to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) and the nut to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft). The lower generator bolt reaches 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque setting before rotating the accessory drive belt tensioner for generator accessory belt installation. The generator electrical cable needs to be connected along with the B+ terminal installation before tightening the B+ terminal nut to 17 Nm (150 lb-in). In conclusion replace the upper radiator hose support cradle, relocate the upper radiator hose, install the engine cover and restore the battery cable connection.
