2009 Lincoln MKX Shift Knob Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Shift Knob on 2009 Lincoln MKX?
A: A suitable tool should be used to extract the selector lever trim ring as the first step during shift knob service and repair on the MKX. The same tool will help lift the armrest before removing the center console trim cover. You should remove the Transmission Control Switch (TCS) electrical connector initially before you slowly pry the shift knob trim covers from the bottom front areas followed by the top front section. Check the knob body for repair needs because a damaged body requires a replacement. Unscrew the two shift knob screws before removing the knob and keep the TCS electrical connector harness to be directed outside the selector lever. Place the TCS electrical connector harness through the selector lever afterward mount the shift knob along with its screws which should be tightened to 2 Nm (18 lb-in) after initial loose screw installation. Install new trim covers only when the shift knob bezel sits properly on the knob. The installation requires the TCS electrical connector wires to run behind the selector lever bezel light bulb wires before connecting the electrical connector and installing the center console trim cover. The MKX requires a reinstall of its selector lever trim ring as the final step.
