2009 Lincoln MKZ Power Steering Pump Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump for both 3.0L and 3.5L engines on 2009 Lincoln MKZ?
A: A suitable suction device should be used for power steering fluid removal from the reservoir when servicing or repairing pumps for 3.0L and 3.5L engines. Begin by taking off the accessory drive belt before unscrewing the clamp to uninstall the power steering pump supply hose. Disconnect the electrical harness from the stud located on power steering pump. The power steering fluid reservoir and power steering pump belt must be removed when working on the 3.5L engine. Users need to disconnect the power steering pressure switch electrical connector and peel off the engine block heater electrical harness from the power steering pressure line when needed. Remove the pressure line-to-power steering pump banjo bolt followed by disconnecting the line and discard the bolt and two seals. You should utilize a new bolt and tighten it to 35 lb-ft (48 Nm) torque setting. Three power steering pump bolts need removal before installation when you should tighten them to 24 Nm (18 lb-ft). The replacement of new banjo bolts and new seals should always occur when disconnecting the power steering pressure line to avoid fluid leakage. Complete the power steering system filling procedure by doing the reverse of removal steps.
