2009 Lincoln MKZ Tie Rod Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the inner tie rod on 2009 Lincoln MKZ?
A: Begin repairing the inner tie rod by removing the steering gear while making clear markings of the pinion shaft and steering gear housing before reinstalling. The vise should have soft jaws positioned around the steering gear to protect it from damage. The tie-rod jam nut needs loosening before removing the outer tie-rod end until it reaches torque of 80 Nm (59 lb-ft) during reinstallation. The service requires removal of both bellows boots from the right-hand inner tie-rod end by unclipping the four bellow clamps. A suitable wrench should clamp the piston shaft throughout the process of removing the inner tie-rod end installation will require 103 Nm (76 lbft) torque on the end. Automobile technicians need to hold the piston shaft when tightening the inner tie rod until the new rock washer receives proper crimping. Reattach the parts by completing the opposite steps of removal.
