2009 Lincoln Navigator Starter Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the starter motor on 2009 Lincoln Navigator?
A: Before starting any repairs on the starter motor the vehicle must be in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. Cutting the connection of the battery ground cable will help avoid electrical dangers. Begin by removing the starter terminal cover which leads to removing the solenoid S-terminal electrical connection by unthreading its nut and then unthreading the solenoid B-terminal electrical connection. The battery ground cable starter attachment and the two bolts which anchor the stud bolt must be unlinking to release the starter motor assembly. Installation of the starter involves the following sequential bolt tightening process: firstly adjust the bolts and stud bolt by hand then move on to tightening the upper bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) before finishing by tightening the lower bolt and stud bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Attach the starter battery ground cable to the stud while using a nut to fasten it before tightness reaches 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Safe installation of the solenoid B-terminal electrical connection requires tightening the securing nut to 12 Nm (106 lb-in). Follow by linking the solenoid S-terminal electrical connection then install its nut before placing back the starter terminal cover which needs tightening at 6 Nm (53 lb-in). Reattach the battery ground cable onto the stud by tightening it to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
