    A: Service and repair of brake pedal assembly starts by taking out the instrument panel steering column cover alongside the reinforcement. Braking operations must stop before the operator removes the speed control deactivator switch because the plunger position matters for bracket rotation. A plunger extension during removal will break the bracket. The first action requires the stoplamp switch removal followed by disconnecting the adjustable pedal motor drive cable from the brake pedal and bracket assembly before placing the components aside. The adjustable pedal potentiometer electrical connector needs to be disconnected on vehicles which have this memory feature installed. After disconnecting the booster push rod pin from the brake pedal you can remove brake pedal bracket bolts ensuring their torque at 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) before fastening them again. The first step includes removing the stoplamp switch harness from its position on the pedal bracket then disconnecting the steering column shaft bolt before taking out the steering column shaft while discarding the bolt and using a new one tightened to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). The correct orientation for the brake switch installation requires placing its closed end towards the brake pedal arm and its open end towards the brake pedal arm to avoid damage.
