2009 Lincoln Town Car Neutral Safety Switch Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Neutral Safety Switch for the 4R70E/4R75E Transmission on 2009 Lincoln Town Car?
A: The procedure for servicing the Transmission Position Switch/Sensor for 4R70E/4R75E starts with parking the vehicle on a hoist when the transmission is set to neutral. The selector lever cable and Transmission Range (TR) sensor connector should be disconnected first before removing the TR sensor bolts which allow you to extract the sensor. First install the TR sensor while maintaining a loose threading on the bolts. The manual control lever needs to be set in neutral position while using the TR Sensor Alignment Gauge to achieve precise sensor slot alignment. It is essential to attach the screws one by one starting with the opposite direction yet ending with 9 Nm (80 lb-in) final torque. Secure the sensor then position the manual control lever at (D) while connecting the selector lever cable and tighten it to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) before reconnecting the TR sensor connector.
