  • Q: How to service and repair the lumbar Seat Motor on 2009 Lincoln Town Car?
    A: Before beginning any repairs or services of the lumbar motor you need to remove the seat. The side air bag seats require a new backrest trim cover because they cannot be repaired but cleaning should be performed. Noncompliance with this procedure will result in improper deployment of the seat side air bag module thus creating a dangerous risk of severe injuries or fatalities in car crashes. Begin the process by unclipping the J-clip on the seat backrest trim cover starting from the bottom J-clip which is followed by the two side J-clips. To eliminate the lumbar motor start by disconnecting the electrical connector and removing and discarding two rivets which allow motor extraction. Begin by detaching the seat backrest frame from its position on the bottom and remove it by partially separating the foam pad from the top of the backrest frame for access and releasing the lumbar assembly from the top of the backrest frame. When installing the lumbar assembly users should first connect it to the backrest frame top before securing the bottom part to the lower frame retainer where the motor and cable remain correctly aligned. Connect the electrical connector of the lumbar motor through replacement with two new rivets. When attaching the top seat trim cover J-clips focus on their alignment to avoid wrinkling the cover material before installing the seat backrest trim cover J-clips beginning with the side clips and concluding with the lower one. Finally, reinstall the seat.
