2009 Mercury Mariner Hood Latch Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the hood latch on 2009 Mercury Mariner?
A: The hood latch nut requires loosening without removal at the beginning of servicing and repairs. Before disassembling the hood latch bolts it is important to mark their initial position. First disconnect the hood latch release cable following the steps of releasing cable conduit then disconnecting the cable. Unbolt the hood latch followed by an additional step to detach the hood latch release lever. Start by securing the hood latch release cable properly onto the hood latch while you confirm that both the cable connection and cable conduit installation has been achieved. Check the hood latch adjustment after sliding it down onto the mounting bracket by using the marked positions for alignment and then tighten the two hood latch bolts to 11 Nm (97 lb-in). Secure the hood latch nut to 6 Nm tightness (53 lb-in torque).
