2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Front Cross-Member Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Rear Crossmember and Front Cross-Member for transmission support on 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: Start the transmission support crossmember service by placing the vehicle into neutral on a hoist system. The installation requires you to first remove the four transfer case skid plate bolts then take away the transfer case skid plate which should be tightened to 15 Nm (133 lb-in) before reinstalling it. Begin by uninstalling the right heat shield bolt until it reaches 18 Nm (159 lb-in) torque after which install the left heat shield bolt following the same specifications. Insert a suitable jack under the transmission for support before untightening the two transmission mount nuts that need to be fastened to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft) during reinstallation. Remove the six lower bolts from the transmission crossmember before installation while tightening them to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft). During the reinstallation step secure the transmission crossmember with 143 Nm (105 lb-ft) torque on both upper nuts and bolts. Execute the reverse order of removal to install the transmission crossmember.
