The first step for servicing or repairing the backing plate requires removal of both the rear
Brake Shoes together with their linings. Begin the repair process by removing the
Axle Shaft and possibly the axle shaft along with the rear hub if both items are needed for removal. Compression of the cable retainer will detach both the parking brake rear cable and conduit from the brake backing plate. Disconnect the brake line fitting first to remove the rear
Wheel Cylinder then remove its two bolts for final removal of the cylinder. You must remove the brake backing plate by taking out its four backing plate-to-axle flange nuts and bolts. Reverse the installation process while making sure to perform brake system bleeding before finishing the work.
