How to service and repair the flywheel ring gear on Ford Escape?

To service the flywheel ring gear remove the flywheel and tap evenly the gear to avoid binding. Warm the gear using acetylene torch, and be careful but use gloves or tongs. To install, make sure the bevel is facing the back, heat, and tap the bevel in place and then put the flywheel back in place.
