Ford Escort Camshaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the camshaft on Ford Escort?
A: Repairing and servicing the camshaft requires disconnecting the ground battery cable and engine air cleaner removal. First remove the igniting coil bracket using its two bolts and then disconnect the camshaft front seal after which you should take out the three bolts holding the valve cover and gasket. Disengaging radio interference capacitor and Ignition Coil electric connections allows you to take out ignition coil bolts before placing it to one side. Using this order remove the ignition coil bracket and its bolts and subsequently detach the eight valve tappets. The procedure begins with unbolting the two pieces and the camshaft thrust plate (part number 6269) while discarding the cup plug from the cylinder head's rear to extract the camshaft. Before inserting the camshaft through the rear of the cylinder head, soak the cylinder head cam bore with Super Premium 5W-30 SAE Motor Oil (part number XO-5W30-QSP) or a Ford-approved equivalent to WSS-M2C153-G specification. Place the camshaft thrust plate first before adding bolts then the cup plug after which install eight valve tappets and rocker arms. Reinstall the ignition coil bracket while connecting the electrical connectors to both components alongside the radio interference capacitor. Round up the installation with the camshaft front seal, valve cover, engine air cleaner and battery ground cable.
