Ford Escort Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the exhaust manifold on Ford Escort?
A: Service of the exhaust manifold starts with disconnecting the battery ground cable and Drive Belt removal. When working on the exhaust system users need to be cautious so they should disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) at the wiring harness to protect against damage especially the upstream HO2S electrical connector positioned on the cooling fan shroud. Start by taking off the exhaust manifold shield together with the five nuts then proceed to disconnect the two EGR tubes from the exhaust manifold studs. The power steering pressure hose and bracket should be set aside after the bolts are removed. Move the generator forward by first loosening its lower securing bolt and afterward removing the upper bolt. When the generator reaches its correct position remove the exhaust manifold-to-three way Catalytic Converter (TWC) nuts. Engine temperature must reach complete coldness before performing work on aluminum parts; afterward remove the nuts then gently detach the exhaust manifold along with its gasket and discard the old gasket. The installation process should use plastic manual scrapers instead of abrasive grinding discs because they prevent damage to aluminum sealing surfaces. Follow the same steps in reverse order for installment.
