A professional must begin servicer and repair procedures by removing the
Timing Belt and timing sprockets from the vehicle. The
Camshaft alignment tool serves as a tool for alignment only and should never be used to secure the camshafts when dealing with bolt nuts or tightening them because doing so risks breaking the camshaft ear structures. An open-end wrench should be used to stop rotation of the camshaft because both bolt removal and intake camshaft timing sprocket extraction require this tool. The open-end wrench will stop the camshaft from turning during the removal step of the exhaust camshaft sprocket. Afterward, remove the VCT oil plug and then detach both the bolt and the sprocket. When installing VCT sprockets align the rectangular tab located at the backside with the hole on the thrust bushing front face to prevent performance issues in your engine. The installation process should follow the reversal of uninstallation procedures.
