How to service the seat armrest of a captain's chair with integrated restraints on Ford Excursion?

Safety glasses must be worn when servicing the captain's chair seat armrest that features seat integrated restraints (SIR) because this ensures protection against accidental air bag deployment injuries. Sanitize both hands using soap and water to eliminate remaining sodium hydroxide from your skin after a deployment. Repairs must start only after the back up power supply empties out by disconnecting the battery ground cable and waiting for one minute while independent power supplies and batteries are also separated from the system. Disable the supplemental restraint system (SRS) prior to removing the seat which needs repair. The procedure to disassemble the armrest starts with unfastening the fabric at its pivot end then taking out the attachment bolt until the whole armrest separates from the seat backrest. Position the armrest on the seat backrest before installing the attachment bolt while taking note of the slide spacer found at the end of the bolt on SIR seats. Then secure the fabric back over the pivot end of the armrest. The seat installation procedure should be followed including SRS reactivation and dragging all devices linked to restraint diagnosis until the vehicle becomes ready for safe driving. Active restraint operation status needs to be verified as part of the final inspection.
