Servicing the horizontal Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler demands extreme caution especially when dealing with the one-time use mounting clamps because new clamps need installation after any clamp nut loosening or removal. The left-hand (LH) exhaust manifold bolts along with its gaskets need replacement after single usage. The removal of four LH exhaust manifold bolts for accessing the horizontal EGR cooler mounting bracket requires taking out the LH exhaust manifold to replace both gaskets and bolts. The procedure which removes the EGR cooler becomes an integral part of the LH exhaust manifold installation process. The installation of the EGR cooler follows the opposite steps to those used for removal.
