- Q: How to Service and Repair Automatic Transmission Shift Levers on Ford Flex?A: You should start the automatic transmission shifter service steps by taking off the automatic transmission shift lever trim ring and opening the storage compartment lid. You should start by lifting the rear portion of the upper console finish panel to detach it and afterward pull the floor console trim panel outward to free its retaining clips. Press down on the front side of the floor console trim panel while peeled pin-type retainers separate it from their anchors using pieces of cardboard as protection for left floor console trim panel and center console surfaces. Disassemble the left floor console panel along with its attached cardboard by disconnecting the automatic transmission shift lever cable from its position on the automatic transmission shift lever. Cut the floor console bridge according to the indicated markings while removing the discarding piece. Also disconnect all electrical connectors. Pull out the automatic transmission shift lever once you eliminate its four attachment bolts. Install the automatic transmission shift lever by placing it in position then bolt it securely with four bolts that should be tightened to reach 11 Nm (97 lb-in). The operation begins with reconnecting the electrical connector and attaching the automatic transmission shift lever cable onto its bracket by securing both clips. Insert the floor console trim panel and cardboard at the same time and rise the front of the trim panel to lock it with the pin-type retainer followed by pushing it inward to engage the retaining clips. The installation process requires you to set the floor console finish panel and the automatic transmission shift lever trim ring. A final check should be performed on automatic transmission shift lever cable adjustment which needs to confirm that the vehicle enters PARK and NEUTRAL functions correctly and REVERSE lamps illuminate properly. Perform the proper adjustment procedure only when necessary.
